SOUTH FORSYTH – A 15-year-old girl was critically injured in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday night just south of McFarland Parkway on Ga. 400, authorities said.

While the driver, a 17-year-old female, suffered minor injuries, the passenger was taken to an area hospital around 9:30 p.m. The latest update on her condition was at the time of the crash, said Robin Regan, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found the Toyota passenger car about 100 feet off the roadway down an embankment, he said. The vehicle had struck the wall that divides the highway while traveling southbound before crossing and leaving the three-lane roadway.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected, but the crash is still under investigation, Regan said.

He noted both occupants were wearing seat belts.

The roadway was shut down for about an hour.
