BUFORD — An 8-year-old girl was flown by helicopter to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite after a golf cart overturned onto her just before noon Friday, according to authorities.

Joann Looper said she came out of her house on Shoreland Drive off Lanier Islands Parkway when she heard “people hollering” down the road.

“The cart was turned over sideways,” she said. “The rearview mirror was pushing into her chest. Three people helped pick it up off her.”

Looper said the girl was in the passenger side of the cart when it flipped.

“[The driver] said the little girl grabbed her hand. It caused her to lose control,” Looper said.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes said the girl was pinned under the cart but was conscious and breathing when she was taken to the hospital.

A Georgia State Patrol officer marked areas with a paint canister around the cart, which had been headed downhill on a dirt path. The bumpy trail leads to a creek, Looper said.

The state patrol, which is handling the investigation, has not said if there will be any charges.
