The Forsyth County Fire Department will collect donations for its annual boot drive at intersections throughout the county for the next three Saturdays: May 1, 8 and 15.

Money raised from “Give Burns the Boot” goes to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, which funds several programs, including a summer camp for children who have suffered severe burns.

Proceeds also go toward educational programs.

More than 100 fire departments throughout the state participate in the drive.

About 5 percent of the total collected will be returned to the county for local fire safety and burn prevention programs.

In a statement, Fire Chief Danny Bowman praised the generosity of local residents.

“Forsyth County is a very generous community,” he said. “We are always appreciative of the support the boot drive receives.”
