High winds were to blame for a handful of downed power lines Monday.

Between noon and 6 p.m., the Forsyth County Fire Department responded to six phone calls for power lines down or tree limbs on power lines, said Division Chief Jason Shivers.

“There are still gusting winds today,” he said Tuesday morning. “But it does appear we made it through relatively unscathed with the worst behind us.”

In addition to the power lines, there was one tree that fell on a car on Chevy Street. The car was parked and unoccupied, so there were no injuries, Shivers said.

Though the county is in burn season, a burn ban has been put in place daily during high winds.

“Today is the fourth day in a row that we’ve not allowed it,” Shivers said Tuesday. “We had two brush fires that were illegal burns that were made worse by the high winds [Monday].”

Shivers said to check the county’s Web site, www.forsythco.com, daily to see if burning is allowed. High winds were forecast to continue today.
