More than 80 Christmas trees grown in Forsyth County will soon be distributed to military families across the state.
This week, Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm in north Forsyth donated 85 Christmas trees to the Trees for Troops program, which will go to families of military members in Georgia. Nathan Bottoms, with the farm, said the trees were paid for through $50 donations.
“We have a jar at the cash register, and local customers and friends put in donations,” said Nathan Bottoms. “Our biggest donation comes from the school system. Local elementary, middle and high schools all supported this year.”
Bottoms said donations also came from friends, family and local groups and said the farm has been participating in the program for about 14 years.
“It’s a great program,” Bottoms said. “We support our local military. Old Glory flies year-round on the farm. We are ‘Proud to be an American.’ I know that’s the old cliché, but we love our military, we support our military and we realize that our freedoms and what we have here and the business we run is only because of the people that protect us.”
