The inaugural Sgt. David P. Land memorial motorcycle ride on Saturday raised about $1,600 for a scholarship fund.
The local Fraternal Order of Police organized the ride and poker run to honor the memory of Land, who was killed on March 26, 2003, when his service motorcycle collided with two vehicles along Hwy. 20 just east of Ga. 400.
The money raised will support a scholarship fund in the name of his daughter, Taylor Land, 16, who will be the first recipient.
The procession began at Killer Creek Harley Davidson in Roswell and ended at Stars and Strikes in Cumming.
“We definitely plan on doing it annually, along with other community events such as Cops and Kids,” said Courtney Spriggs, a lodge member.
The initial event date of March 23 was rained out, and so the ride was moved to Saturday.
