Forsyth County officials reported few incidents with injuries over the long Labor Day weekend, though one man remains at large after running from a traffic stop in north Forsyth.
Of the 41 accidents Friday through Monday, only five caused injuries, none of which were life-threatening, according to Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies made four arrests for driving under the influence, a low number for a holiday weekend, Rodriguez said.
One arrest did not occur, however, because a suspect remains at large after deputies engaged in a foot chase after a traffic stop Saturday.
During a routine patrol of Matt Highway (Hwy. 369) and Doc Bramblett Road, a deputy reportedly observed the driver of a green Chevrolet Impala, which was travelling eastbound on Matt Hwy., making strange mannerisms, according to an incident report.
The deputy followed the car, which began to accelerate before turning onto John Burruss Road, where it crossed over a solid double yellow line and passed another vehicle.
The deputy then attempted to make a traffic stop, but the car “continued to accelerate to a speed well over 100 mph” before turning onto Mills Lane – an unpaved, non-county maintained road, the report said.
Ultimately, the deputy found the vehicle stopped at the end of the road with the driver’s door open and a woman in the driver’s seat.
She “began to tell [me] various names as to who was driving before finally confessing that Matthew Frix was driving,” the deputy said in the report.
A grey Georgia Bulldogs hat was also found lying on the ground about 50 feet from the car, in the direction Frix reportedly ran. Deputies attempted to track Frix with a police dog.
He is wanted for fleeing, attempting to elude, too fast for conditions and probation violation.
Water Incidents
Seven people were arrested for boating under the influence over the weekend, all on Lake Lanier, said Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
That number marks a decrease from last year, in which there were eight BUI arrests reported on the lake.
Three boating incident injuries were also reported on the lake over the holiday weekend, one of which involved alcohol. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
Two drownings, neither in Forsyth County, were also reported.
