Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty was honored Friday in a ceremony.

The event, sponsored by the sheriff’s office and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 82, marked the seventh anniversary of the death of sheriff’s Sgt. David P. Land.

The ceremony was held in front of Forsyth Furnishings on Hwy. 20, where Land’s motorcycle was struck by another vehicle. Land was responding to a call when the fatal collision occurred.

Since his death, the local FOP lodge has been named after him. Additionally, the sheriff’s office conducts a motorcycle ride every September in his honor to benefit the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes.
