Where to go

A limited number of free tree seedlings will be available Saturday, while supplies last, at the three Forsyth County Convenience Centers: 3560 Settingdown Road; 3678 Old Atlanta Road; and 351 Tolbert St.

Celebrate Georgia Arbor Day by planting a free red bud or red cedar seedling from Keep Forsyth County Beautiful.

A limited number of free tree seedlings will be available Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., and while supplies last, at the three Forsyth County Convenience Centers.

Forsyth County Master Gardeners will be at the sites to answer questions and provide planting information.

“Trees provide a lasting gift to future generations,” said Tammy Wright, environmental program manager. “They improve the surrounding area and are good for the environment. We are excited to offer these tree seedlings to residents.”

Residents picking up a free tree seedling Saturday will be asked to provide a brief description of where they want to plant it, she said.

“We welcome residents to keep us updated on the progress of the planted trees by sending us photos or information about how they have enjoyed their trees,” Wright said.

National Arbor Day is held on the third Friday April. The state’s day is held on the third Friday in February because Georgia’s weather conditions are more suitable for planting trees then, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission.
