SOUTH FORSYTH — Sounds of Sawnee Concert Band will offer a free community concert this weekend.
The band, which is open to local musicians of various ages and experience levels, will present the Concert in the Park at 3 p.m. Sunday in Fowler Park’s large pavilion.
“This annual concert has been a tradition with the band for several years, first at Poole’s Mill Park and more recently at the wonderful Fowler Park facility,” said Pepper Bowe, a band representative, in a statement.
In addition to Sounds of Sawnee full concert band, the group’s smaller jazz ensemble will also perform during the concert.
The concert band is conducted by Alice Bryan, while the jazz band is under the direction of Dave Strandgren.
Both groups will perform a wide range of musical pieces, Bowe said, ranging from “Broadway show tunes, marches, easy listening music to the great piece of music by Charlie Daniels, ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia.’”
“We look forward to area residents spending a Sunday afternoon listening to two outstanding music groups,” Bowe said.
