Cumming Playhouse veterans Bob and Kathy Russell have founded a new production company that recently held auditions for its first show.

Known for producing "The Georgia Senior Follies," a yearly original that features the talents of those 55 and over, the couple will also produce Broadway musicals through BK Productions.

"We want people to know that even though these shows will involve the same creators and producers as ‘Georgia Senior Follies,’ we’ll now be in business as BK Productions," Kathy Russell said.

"We’ll be bringing many Broadway musicals to the Cumming Playhouse starting with ‘42nd Street.’"

Russell noted that BK Productions’ shows won’t be limited to the senior set.

"For ‘42nd Street,’ for example, we’ll be looking for performers ranging in age from 18 to 65," she said.

The show will be presented at the playhouse Oct. 14 through Nov. 6.

Auditions were held this past weekend at the Brannon-Heard House, 111 Pilgrim Mill Road in Cumming.

Russell said she and her husband were looking for talented actors who can also sing and dance well.

Russell said the couple decided to begin BK Productions after some encouragement from playhouse leaders.

"It’s something Linda Heard [playhouse executive director] has been asking us to do for some time," Russell said.

"The ‘Follies’ takes up a lot of time because we create a new show every year, but with a lot of encouragement we decided to give it a try."

She said she’s looking foward to presenting the production company’s first musical.

"’42nd Street’ is one of our favorites," she said. "It’s one of the longest running shows on Broadway."
