Cumming Farmers Market opens Wednesday at fairgrounds

CUMMING — Forsyth County might not be a little farming community anymore, but newcomers can still get a taste of the fruits and vegetables of their labors.

Staring Wednesday, the Cumming Farmer’s Market at the Cumming Fairgrounds will open. Manager Randy Gazaway said that only local farmers are allowed to sell what they’ve grown.

“It’ll be every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 6:30 a.m., until … about 11 a.m. each day,” he said.  “What we do there is from local farmers, which means from Forsyth County or basically surrounding counties. That’s all we permit into the market.”

“Everything has to be grown by the person that is actually selling the product.”

Though there is a small fee per day for vendors, $6, there is no fee for customers and more than just vegetables will be up for sale.

“Of course we will have vegetables there and everything as they start coming in,” Gazaway said. “As far as I know we’ll be having some baked goods … I’ve got a person that will be there on Saturday’s and she makes soap and sells that.”

“We have a person there who sells nuts, and we normally have a lady there who sells different types of flowers.”

Even Gazaway will be there selling his own products.

“Myself, I sell meat,” Gazaway. “I sell country sausage.  I sell different types of pork cuts, ground beef, different beef cuts.”

Gazaway said that there will be a variety of vendors, and the number varies each day.

Anyone is welcome to come out, and Gazaway said there is no comparison to the homegrown vegetables.

“Of course we’re open to the public,” he said. “If anyone is health conscious and looking to eat fresh vegetables that’s picked right out of the garden, I highly recommend they come out and try the vegetables. There’s just no comparison between the farmers market and what you go to the store to purchase.”

Gazaway said anyone with questions about the farmer’s market can call him at (770) 843-2485.
