Keep Forsyth County Beautiful is looking to keep old electronics out of the landfill.

On Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., the nonprofit will host a paint and electronic recycling event at the city of Cumming’s Parking Lot No. 3 across Castleberry Road from the Cumming Fairgrounds. A minimum donation of $5 is requested, though some items may have additional fees.

“Every spring and fall our staff and volunteers look forward to this event,” Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright said in a news release. “We get to be amazed by how many recyclables are collected in a four-hour period and kept out of landfills.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring electronics items, rather than those that just use electricity.

Acceptable items include computers, computers parts, keyboards, VCRs, cell phones and stereos. Items that will not be accepted are refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers or wooden or projector TVs. 

 A fee of $20 will be applied to each television and $10 for each computer monitor to cover glass processing costs.

KFCB will also accept oil and latex-based paints in the original containers. The disposal costs for latex paint is $12 for a 5-gallon bucket, $5 for a 2-gallon bucket, $3 for a 1-gallon can and $1 for a 1-quart can or smaller.

The costs for oil-based paints are $17 for a 5-gallon bucket, $4 for a 1-gallon can, $2 for a 1-quart can, and $1 for a 1-pint can. Spray paint cans can be recycled for $1 each.
