Cumming Library has much to offer in March
Library

CUMMING — With a new month comes new activities at the Cumming Library. And it would seem March has something lined up for all ages.

First up, the library will hold a new story walk March 7 in its secret garden based on “Good Night, Fairies” by Kathleen Hague.

Children in kindergarten to fifth grade are encouraged to come to the library and build their own fairy house from materials such as sticks, pebbles and shells.

Space is running out for the house-building event, though the secret garden and story walk will be open through the first week in April. Those interested can sign up at www.forsythpl.org.

For the next event, at 6:30 p.m. March 9, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta will hold a special guest lecture tied to National Women’s History Month.

The theme for 2015 will be, “Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives,” and the scouts will discuss the organization’s history and founder Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low.

Registration is not required for this free event.

Younger attendees will also have a special crafts table, and all ages are encouraged to attend.

Lastly, on March 12, Jon McDaniel will talk about the book “God and Gold: Britain, America, and the Making of the Modern World” by Walter Russell Mead.

McDaniel is the director of the local library system, and the talk is part of the first “Read to Lead” book club gathering.

The meetings will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. At each, members will discuss a book that has “influenced their life and approach to leadership.”

The next Read to Lead event is set for April 9. Led by Wendy Blond, president of the Georgia Dental Hygienists Association, the group will review “The Wizard and the Warrior: Leading with Passion and Power” by Lee G. Bolman and Terrence E. Deal.

In May, the talk will feature the “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho with Sylvia Cardona, executive director of Mentor Me, leading the discussion.

Further information on all of the events can be found at www.forsythpl.org.
