SOUTH FORSYTH — Baked goods and marathons aren’t often linked, but this weekend they will join forces for a good cause.

The second Cupcake Road Race will be held beginning with registration at 6 a.m. Saturday at 405 Peachtree Pkwy.

All proceeds from the event — which includes 15K and 5K courses, as well as a Baby Cakes half-mile closed course run for kids 10 and younger — benefit The Place of Forsyth County.

The nonprofit organization has been assisting those in need in the local community since 1975.

It provides a range of services, including a food pantry, thrift store and financial assistance with housing, utility and prescription medicine costs.

Organizers are expecting more than 1,000 runners and walkers for the Cupcake Run, which will include courses on Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Peachtree Parkway.

After their healthy activity, participants can indulge in gourmet cupcakes from Once Upon a Cake in Alpharetta, while Mama Makes Safe Cakes, also in Alpharetta, will provide gluten-free and vegan options.

Last year’s Cupcake Run raised $14,000 and organizers are hoping to top that this year.
