Still looking for that something special to do with your valentine this weekend?

Look no further than the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center.

Saturday, the Forsyth Community Connection will hold its Hearts & Hands Gala, a fundraiser featuring a gourmet dinner, wine pairings, dancing and a silent auction.

Nicole McCoy, executive director, said this event is a first for the organization.

"We wanted to do something different and we thought this would be a fun way to fundraise and educate people about what we do," McCoy said.

Community Connection is a partnership between various nonprofits and entities such as city and county government, the local school system, churches and public and private service providers.

It seeks to create healthy families and a strong community.

It includes HandsOn Forsyth, which matches volunteers to various charitable organizations needing assistance.

Saturday's event will be black-tie optional, featuring a menu by local chef Kern Chiasson.

Among the silent auction items, McCoy said, will be trips to Costa Rica and a mountain cabin, jewelry, fitness sessions and organic gardening lessons.

"Hopefully, there'll be something for everyone," she said.

McCoy anticipates a crowd of about 100, but will welcome as many as possible.

Falling the weekend prior to Valentine's Day, she added, may be a big draw.

"What's great is this is a great way to celebrate Valentine's and celebrate a good cause all at the same time," McCoy said.
