FORSYTH COUNTY — The Forsyth County Family YMCA is holding Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, part of a national event to keep children active over the summer.

“All Y’s across the country are going to be celebrating Healthy Kids Day,” said Sarah Pedarre, director of membership and community engagement. “A lot of kids aren’t as active as when they’re going to school over the summer. [We’re] just trying to keep kids and families more active and eating healthy.”

The event will feature a human foosball course, free massages, face painting and inflatable bounce houses, plus information from several local agencies.

“We’ll have the Red Cross. We’re going to have the [Division of Family and Children Services] office with information about becoming foster families,” Pedarre said.

“We’ll have the Forsyth County Youth Orchestra, they’ll be doing like a petting zoo with their instruments, so kids can go in and get a feel for the different kinds of instruments there are.”

Pedarre said the event is mostly geared towards families and children, but the entire community is welcome to come.

“This is going to be for everybody,” she said. “This is for families, anyone with kids, people that just want to come out and see our branch and just kind of what we do. A lot of people don’t know that we exist, that we’re a nonprofit that we’re here to help our community.”

Saturday’s forecast calls for rain, but Pedarre said the event would go on regardless.

“[We may] be moving the majority of our vendors inside our gym,” she said. “We will have a tent over our foosball court and our back grassy area.”

The YMCA is on Y Street in Vickery Village, southwest of Cumming. For more information, contact (678) 341-6244 or fcy.ymcaatlanta.org.
