The Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club recently recognized the winners of its 2019 essay contest.

All three winners were from South Forsyth High School, led by Julie Renesiaus, the first-place winner, followed by Sarah Hicks in second and Roshan Ravishankar in third.

Renesiaus received a $300 checking account from BB&T Bank, while Hicks received one with $200 and Ravishankar received one with $100.

Meanwhile, the club honored Clori Rose with the Carl Cone “Friend of Youth” Award, given to those whose contributions to young people in Forsyth County has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

And Lucas Shane Flantzer was recognized as the club’s “Youth of the Month” for January. The South Forsyth student is a founding member of the Gates Chapel United Methodist Church’s Troop 404 in Ellijay. An Eagle Scout, Flantzer became the first the first in Northeast Georgia Council’s Mountain District to earn all merit badges, one of just eight from Georgia and 388 others across the country since the inception of Boy Scouts of America in 1910 to accomplish that feat.
