SOUTH FORSYTH — Five of the 11 stops Saturday on the Atlanta Koi Club’s Pond and Garden Tour are in Forsyth County.

The tour starts in south Forsyth before making its way to Roswell and then end in Marietta.

Tour chairwoman and Forsyth resident Melanie Onushko said her koi pond, which is on the tour, began as a way to honor her late father.

“When my father passed away, instead of giving flowers, someone gave me I think $25 to buy something that would remind me of my dad. It took a while to figure out,” Onushko said.

“About a year later, I thought, well, my dad loved to trout fish, so I bought a koi.”

With the right equipment, koi ponds are low-maintenance and “very relaxing and therapeutic,” Onushko said.

The tour begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 520 Fawn Run in south Forsyth and ends at 5:30 p.m. at 814 Fern St. in Marietta.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased on Saturday at the first or last home on the tour or in advance on the Atlanta Koi Club’s website, www.atlantakoiclub.org/.
