The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is inviting motorcyclists to take a ride for charity this weekend.

Registration for the 8th annual Sgt. David P. Land Memorial Ride is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday at Bikers Dream on Atlanta Highway in south Forsyth. The fee is $25 per motorcycle.

Land, a Forsyth County Sheriff's deputy, was killed in the line of duty on March 26, 2003, when his motorcycle collided with two vehicles on Hwy. 20.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes.

From Bikers Dream, bikers will ride 65 miles through north Georgia and end at Stars and Strikes on Merchant Drive in Cumming for a buffet lunch.

Sheriff's Capt. Frank Huggins said the ride has a poker/dice run format. Participants will stop six times and roll five dice at each stop. Whoever scores the highest will receive $300 and a trophy.

"We're expecting a great turnout and the weather's supposed to be nice," he said. "They'll enjoy a ride through some of Georgia's prettiest pastureland."

Huggins said there also will be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes. The first 150 people who register will receive free T-shirts.

Huggins said riders can leave at any point on the trip.
