For the third year, a local non-profit will hold a lunch to raise funds for those in need.
Starting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 19, The Place of Forsyth County will host the third annual Hunger Awareness Lunch at Cumming First United Methodist Church to increase awareness about poverty in the county and to fight hunger.
“Neighbors in our community don’t have enough food for their family,” said Joni Smith, executive director of The Place, in a news release.
The Place assists locals with essential needs and helps them toward self-sustainability, and funds will go toward The Place’s Food Market that provides fresh items to those in need. The organization helped more than 27,000 individuals and families in 2015.
Per the release, many in need only eat canned foods and do not often get fresh products such as eggs or fresh fruits and vegetables.
A thrift store boutique will open its doors at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets to the lunch are $25. Reservations can be made with Ashley Carrol through email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (770) 887-1098.
