Several thousand people enjoyed the outdoors Sunday during Forsyth County’s ninth annual Play at the Park event.

For the first time, the parks and recreation department held the family fun day at Fowler Park, which opened in February.

Play at the Park also switched to Sunday from its previous Saturday slot.

"For the first year at a new location and day, everything went very smooth," event organizer Laura Pate said in an e-mail.

Vendors and performers agreed that the event was well organized, Pate said, and many plan to return next time.

Park-goers commented on the beauty of Fowler Park and how much fun they had during the event, Pate said.

"Families were enjoying the free activities and seemed to be having a great time," she said. "There was a little something for everyone."
