At just 1 year old, Kolsen Chisholm has already earned a national modeling gig.

The Forsyth County tot will have his photo featured in the annual cover baby contest in the December/January issue of “Babytalk” magazine, which is affiliated with “Parenting” magazine.

His mother, Melinda, submitted a photo of her youngest child to the contest in June and was shocked to learn two months later that he was among the eight semifinalists out of more than 15,000 entries.

The family took an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City in September.

“The photo shoot was fantastic,” Melinda Chisholm said. “Kolsen was having a good time. He was playing with the snowflakes behind him. He did really well and he enjoyed himself.”

Each baby was photographed in two outfits and appeared in a group shot, plus Melinda Chisholm said several photographers took pictures of the babies behind the scenes.

She heard that more than 50,000 shots were taken during the big day, adding to the family’s collection of their only son’s baby photos.

“We have his regular baby book, but with all of this stuff ... I’ve got it all scrapbooked,” Melinda Chisholm said.

Following the shoot, editors selected three children from the on-set photos and voters chose the cover baby.

While Kolsen Chisholm didn’t make those cuts, his bright eyes and pudgy cheeks will grace page 38 of the upcoming issue.

The article lists his on-set nickname as “Cheeks,” no doubt for the adorable ones accentuating his face.

He also gained a reputation for his love of food, his mother said.

After the final group shot, the staff brought cupcakes for all the camera cuties.

“He literally dove for the cupcakes,” Melinda Chisholm said. “Everybody got a kick out of that.”

That photo along with other behind-the-scenes looks are available on the magazine’s Web site, www.parenting.com/
