CUMMING -- The University of North Georgia’s Cumming campus has partnered with the Sawnee Artists Association to feature the work of local artists at the school.
The work of 14 Forsyth County artists is currently on display, though Beth Sale, director of art galleries with the school, said they received many more submissions.
“We decided we should have an exhibit of their work at the university,” she said. “We put out a call with members of the Sawnee Artists Association, and we had over 50 images submitted to us. A group of jurors selected as many as we could fit in the exhibit space on campus.”
Sale said there was a wide range of artworks on display, with most of the works being oil paintings or photography.
Participating artists are Ruby Bagby, Sheryl Cline, Jay David, David Dobs, Mary Frances, Earlan Gill, Claiborne Hemphill, Jeanne Matey, Kay Money, Mary Del Principe, Bonita Salter, Kris Straukas, Belinda Swift and Evelyn Valk.
At 2 p.m. Oct. 15, the school will hold a panel discussion for the artists to talk about their work and answer questions.
“I’ve gotten RSVPs from seven artists that will be there,” Sale said. “It’ll be a seated panel discussion and they’ll introduce themselves and talk more about their work, and we should have time for questions too.”
The works are on display in room 125 at the Cumming campus of the University of North Georgia until Oct. 15.
