Two local businesses are looking to give 20 Forsyth County families a very merry Christmas this year as part of a giveaway to families in need.

Uptown Cheapskate, in partnership with Kid to Kid — two consignment stores located in Cumming’s Lakeland Plaza — are giving away a total of twenty $100 store gift cards to local families who are struggling to scrape together money for holiday gifts this season.

The stores are also offering a giving tree, which allows community members the opportunity to donate tangible items for needy families, said Uptown Cheapskate store Manager Kayla Cochran.

“We try to reach out into our community pretty often and we know during this time of year, it can be hard for families to buy presents,” Cochran said.

“… A lot of families won’t come forward asking for help because of pride. There are outreach [programs] but some families fall through the cracks, so we’re hoping to bless 20 families this year,” she said.

Cochran added any family can be nominated, especially those who might be “right above the level of receiving [financial] aid.”

“We love our community,” she said. “We’re here in [Cumming] and this is home for a lot of us, so we thought, ‘what can we do?’”

Cochran said families can be nominated through Dec. 2, after which the two stores will review the submissions and choose 20 families. Selected families will then be contacted for additional information, such as children’s clothes sizes, ages and other information to tailor the gifts to their needs.

Family nominations can be emailed to and should include: why the applicant feels like the family should be nominated, children’s ages and gender and contact information.

Selected families will receive their gift cards Saturday, Dec. 23.
