CUMMING — Two months after a new parking deck opened next to the Forsyth County Administration Building, a parking lot on the east side of the building has been reopened.

The lot, which had been closed for improvements and reconfiguration, offers one-hour parking and handicapped spaces.

Improvements were also finished to the adjoining five-level, 491-space Mason Street Parking Facility, which including opening the deck’s entrance to Mason Street.

Handicapped van spaces are available on the first level of the structure and can be accessed only from Mason Street. There’s no cost to park in it.

Both projects, along with a second new downtown parking deck, known as the Castleberry Parking Facility, were part of the new courthouse and jail project.

The first new deck, which features three levels and 222 spaces, opened in June at Castleberry Road and Maple Street.

The parking decks were part of the $100 million new courthouse and jail projects that voters approved in 2011 as part of the extension of a 1-cent sales tax program.
