Forsyth County Commissioner Patrick Bell has scheduled a town hall meeting Tuesday to discuss the legal battle over the future of Bethel Park.
The 62-acre lakeside park in northeastern Forsyth is at the center of a county-filed lawsuit to stop the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from leasing the site to the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta.
Residents can offer input during the meeting, which is set for 6:30 p.m. at Chestatee Elementary School, 6945 Keith Bridge Road.
The YMCA has worked since 2003 to seal the deal for the park on Lake Lanier. The corps was poised to enter an agreement with the organization in 2006.
But the county also sought to lease the park and submitted plans to the corps in 2007 to run the park as a 75-site campground with a day-use area open to the general public.
Hearings on the matter have been postponed twice in the past few months, but could move forward this month or in April, said County Attorney Ken Jarrard.
