During a Thursday meeting, the Forsyth County Commission approved several modifications to the Forsyth County Unified Development Code intended to streamline the rezoning process and grant vested rights to developers with Res-3 properties zoned prior to Nov. 1, 2007.
The board made some changes to the code draft based on public comment, including keeping the minimum sign display for a public hearing at 21 days instead of decreasing to 15 days.
• Held a third public hearing on proposed amendments to a pawnbrokers and pawn shop establishment ordinance that would increase reporting requirements for the resale businesses. Business owners and law enforcement working on the ordinance made additional changes since the second hearing. A required fourth and final hearing is set for June 6.
• Granted variances for front yard setbacks and distance between structures for SR Homes for 31 lots in The Gables at Stoney Point subdivision. Conditions limited the number of lots that can receive a variance and set a minimum house size at 2,600 square feet.
• Set a public hearing on the county’s use of eminent domain to acquire the property at 108-130 Pilgrim Mill Road for June 6 at 6 p.m. The site of the corner strip mall is needed for construction of a parking deck.
