Forsyth County's next clerk of Superior Court will be decided in an Aug. 5 runoff between Greg Allen and Charles Adams.

With 45 percent of the vote, or 4,908 votes, Allen took the lead Tuesday night followed by Adams with 34 percent, or 3,644 votes.

Walter Brown pulled the remaining 21 percent, or 2,230 votes.

The clerk's post is currently held by Doug Sorrells, who is stepping down after 12 years of public service.

Adams, a 57-year-old white collar crimes investigator with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, said Wednesday he was "disappointed" with the election results but declined to comment further.

Neither Allen, a 42-year-old sales executive, nor Brown could be reached for comment Wednesday.

The clerk oversees Forsyth County's countless court documents, and manages jury lists and summons citizens for jury duty.
