Forsyth County's budget won't take an unexpected hit despite last week's winter storm.
Preliminary estimates show the costs associated with the snow and ice cleanup total about $76,000, said Forsyth County spokeswoman Jodi Gardner.
"However, as we continue to compile data, we believe we may be looking at costs in excess of $100,000 for overtime, equipment and materials," she said.
Clearing roads accounted for a large portion of the costs, as well as other weather-related operations throughout the week.
Gardner reported that 40 roads and bridges employees worked about 1,400 hours of overtime.
The county budgets for inclement weather by department and division, she said, but those amounts should cover the expenses incurred by the storm.
Since county officials continue to review the situation, Gardner said it is not yet known how much of the budgeted amount remains to deal with future weather events.
