Cumming approved a new massage business that will focus on treating injuries

City of Cumming officials approved a conditional-use permit that will relax some residents.

At Tuesday’s regular meeting, the council voted unanimously to approve a conditional-use permit for Meadow Walk, LLC to operate a clinical massage therapy business under the name Pure Fitness and Health, at 101 Meadow Drive, Unit D in the Meadow Walk Shopping Center.

Applicant Sam Giganti, who has been practicing massage therapy since 2003, said the center will have more of a focus on medical injuries rather than acting as a massage parlor.

“I have the skill set to assess injury,” he said. “Massage is not for everyone, that’s the drawback … In most circumstances it’s fine, but if you’re dealing with an injury, the last thing you need is someone pushing on something.”

Giganti was the only speaker during the required public hearing.

The city’s planning commission previously recommended approval at a meeting in February.
