The Cumming City Council is reminding voters registered in the Cumming precinct that the new polling location has shifted to downstairs in City Hall.

The Nov. 8 special election features a referendum on whether to extend the 1-cent sales tax.

Gravitt encouraged support of the measure during council’s meeting Tuesday night.

“Any capital improvement project you see in the city of Cumming is due to sales tax,” he said, noting that the city receives a percentage of the tax revenue.

Also at its meeting, city council:

• Approved the annexation of .298 acres on Pilgrim Mill Road.

A public hearing was also held on the annexation, with no one commenting.

The city bought the property when it was developing land that now houses the Cumming Aquatic Center and Driver Services Center.

• Heard a report on the Cumming Country Fair & Festival, which ended its 11-day run Sunday.

Fairgrounds administrator Dave Horton said the festival posted its third highest attendance record in history, with more than 111,000 people.

• Reminded residents that “42nd Street” is at the Cumming Playhouse through Nov. 6.

• Signed proclamations recognizing Nov. 11 as Veterans Day and Nov. 12 as American Legion Auxiliary’s Poppy Day.

Paper poppies are made by patients in veteran hospitals and distributed by members of various veterans organizations to raise funds for the medical facilities.

• Recognized the Cumming Police Department’s newest member, Burrell Sullivan, who recently completed his 400-plus hours of police training.
