The city of Cumming plans to upgrade its Web site.

Mayor and council on Tuesday night approved a nearly $18,000 bid from Satterfield and Losurdo, a Forsyth County firm, to design, develop and implement a new site.

Mayor H. Ford Gravitt said the new Web site would unify and streamline all the current various department sites.

City Administrator Gerald Blackburn said the project should be completed within two to three months.

Also during Tuesday night’s meeting, mayor and council unanimously approved:

• The Howell Group Inc.’s bid of about $25,000 to install a lightning protection system at the Cumming Aquatic Center.

• Annexing the 11 remaining land parcels in Ventura Park, off Pilgrim Mill Road. Nine other sites in the office park were annexed in November.

• Daniel Fries & Associates’ 15-foot variance request for the Corporate Square office complex on Dahlonega Highway, with the condition that other property owners there sign off on it.

Dan Fries, who attended the meeting, said he owns half of the buildings and could secure written consent from the other owners.

• An amendment to the city’s utilities ordinance that will allow transfers of sewer capacity to different properties.

• Amending the city’s alcohol ordinance to include a definition of growlers, glass jugs that hold half a gallon of beer, and rules for re-corking wine bottles.

• Alcohol license renewals for Mia’s Pizza and Eats, Tacos Mexico and In & Out Grocery, and a new license for The Foster House.

• City employees Phil Higgins and Steve Bennett, as well as Councilmen Quincy Holton, Lewis Ledbetter and Rupert Sexton, to serve on a state-mandated pension trust fund committee.

• Also: Officials made note of a decision last month to hold a referendum March 6, in conjunction with the county, in which voters will decide on Sunday alcohol sales.
