Fire station to undergo repairs

A Forsyth County fire station southeast of Cumming will be closed for about a month, weather permitting, for repairs.

Beginning Monday, equipment and personnel from Fire Station 15, which is located at 1525 Buford Highway, will temporarily operate out of Fire Station 1 on Castleberry Industrial Drive.

Fire Chief Danny Bowman said the condition of the station’s parking area and driveway could create a safety hazard to personnel and damage equipment.

Similar repairs were recently completed at Fire Station 14 on McFarland Parkway. Personnel and equipment from Station 14 are operating out of Fire Station 2 on Carolene Way while new concrete cures.

The repairs are the first phase of a two-part project by Reid & Reid Contractors.

The cost to the county is $107,201, which could come out of the county's general fund, fire fund or a combination of the two.

“It is important to note that the territories of Fire Station 14 and Fire Station 15 are not directly adjacent to one another and thus the simultaneous closures will not adversely impact responses to their districts,” Bowman said. “With every action the fire department takes, the safety of our citizens is always foremost in our thoughts.”
