A public information meeting about a plan to put a cell tower at Sawnee Mountain Park has been set for 7 p.m. March 26.

The meeting, organized by Forsyth County, will be held at the park's community building, 3995 Watson Road.

Residents will be able to learn about the proposal and offer input.

Wireless Facilities Inc. has proposed the 180-foot tower as an extension of a light pole at one of the park's athletic fields.

The company is seeking a 30-year lease, which could initially generate $15,000 per year in revenue for the county.

To date, there are 27 towers on county property, owned by the county and outside companies, said county spokeswoman Jodi Gardner.

The county takes in about $125,000 per year in revenue from cellular companies, she said.
