Also during its meeting Tuesday night, the Cumming City Council:

* Accepted a nearly $18,000 bid from Southern Paving Solutions to resurface a Castleberry Road parking lot, which is next door to a soon-to-open parking deck.

* Approved accepting bids for grading work at City Park, which is undergoing a major renovation.

* Signed a proclamation recognizing June as Scoliosis Awareness Month on behalf of Summer Jefferson, a 16-year-old student who shared her personal story of dealing with the disease, which causes curving of the spinal column.

CUMMING — The Cumming City Council has given the go-ahead to move forward with the Lanier 400 Parkway extension linking Bald Ridge Marina and Pilgrim Mill roads.

The first two phases involve preconstruction work and grading.

Cumming Mayor H. Ford Gravitt said the project costs were higher than anticipated, so no funding is available for paving at this time.

As a result, council voted this week to approve a $3.8 million bid from Reid & Reid Contractors for the first portions but hold off on paving until next year.
