A 45-unit retirement facility and 16-acre shopping center got the OK from Forsyth County commissioners last week following a public hearing.

The board voted 5-0 to rezone the Lindley Development, located on the south end of Jot Em Down Road, to neighborhood shopping.

The board also unanimously approved a conditional use permit for an 18,300-square-foot personal care home/institutionalized living facility, also on Jot Em Down Road.

Attorney Ethan Underwood spoke on behalf of the developer, who plans to build both projects.

The shopping center proposal calls for 74,150 square feet of retail and restaurant space with 367 parking spaces on Jot Em Down near Cantrell Road (click for map), not far from Ga. 400.

Underwood said the county's future land-use map shows the area as neighborhood commercial and high density residential.

Plans for the nearby living facility and care home show an 18,300-square-foot building with 51 parking spaces.

Forsyth County's planning board has held several public hearings on the facility and shopping area.

While the planning board hearings drew the ire of some nearby residents, the deal cleared the county commission Thursday night with ease.
