A portion of Shiloh Road near McFarland Parkway in south Forsyth will be closed until at least Jan. 25.

Originally scheduled to reopen by year’s end, the project has been pushed back by the weather and delays in moving the utility lines, said Jodi Gardner, county spokeswoman.

Gardner added that the contractor will continue working weekends to finish the project as soon as possible.

The county had planned to build a new culvert on that road, but heavy September rains accelerated the project, she said.

The concrete box culvert is a structure designed to let water run under the road and mitigate flooding.

“We needed to replace that in order to maintain a safe environment for motorists in the area,” she said.

The heavy autumn rains also caused a sinkhole in that section of the road, which was repaired.

Kristin Glazell, who works at Synergy Release Sports on Shiloh Road, said the closure hasn’t been too inconvenient for area drivers.

“Traffic is not bad. It’s going around,” Glazell said. “We’re on the phone a lot giving directions [for the detour].”

The detour route uses McFarland Parkway, Old Alpharetta Road, Shiloh Road East and Meadow Lane.

“We appreciate motorists’ patience during this closure,” Gardner said.
