Young swimmers are invited to meet two aquatic stars at an event Saturday.
The Cumming Aquatic Center will welcome a stop from the Fitter & Faster Swim Tour from 1 to 4 p.m.
The national program, which tours the country, is led by swimming experts, such as Olympian medalists and national champions.
Carla Wilson, the center’s director, said the event will feature Lacey Nymeyer, 2008 Olympic silver medalist in the 400-meter freestyle relay, and Josh Schneider, an American record holder. The cost is $75 per child.
“This is the first event of this kind we’ve held at the aquatic center and we’re really excited about it,” Wilson said.
She said the event is open to swimmer of all ages, but is targeted to those between 7 and 14.
“It’s a good opportunity for swimmers and swim teams in the area,” she said. “They’ll have the chance to meet the athletes, see their medals and race with them.”
Wilson said about 75 swimmers, primarily from area swim teams, have registered for the event so far, but there’s room for plenty more.
“There’s really no limit since we have lots of space in our pool,” she said.
Besides meeting Nymeyer and Schneider, participants also will have a chance to learn practical swim information from them.
According to the Fitter & Faster Web site, events include information about competition preparation, stroke mechanics, underwater kicks, sprinting, and open water and distance swimming.
“Nymeyer and Schneidner will serve as expert clinicians,” Wilson said.
