A 56-year-old man who suffered burns in a weekend house fire has died.

Officials said Ricky Wayne Mills was taken Friday night to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the blaze, which was reported about 9:25 p.m. Friday, destroyed an outbuilding at 2275 Holly Court in southeastern Forsyth.

Shivers said the structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Mills had escaped the building, but had severe burns and was in extreme pain.

“The gentleman had been in the building when the fire occurred,” Shivers said. “The exact cause and origin is under investigation, but we are confident that it is accidental in nature.”

Shivers said it is not clear what Mills had been doing in the outbuilding and no other injuries were reported in the blaze.
