A man was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday after being pulled from Lake Lanier at Buford Dam Park.
The man, said to be in his late 40s, was swimming at the beach and passed the designated swimming area before going under, according to Gwinnett fire spokesman Capt.Tommy Rutledge.
Crews responded to the 911 call just before 4 p.m. The Gwinnett Fire Swiftwater Rescue Team found the man about 45 minutes later at the bottom of the lake in about 50 to 60 feet of water.
The man was unresponsive and transferred to a nearby hospital in what officials called “a life-threatening condition.” The victim was not identified.
Hall County Fire Services crews joined responders from Gwinnett and Forsyth counties and Department of Natural Resources rangers and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the rescue effort.
The park is located on the southern tip of Lake Lanier where Hall and Gwinnett counties meet.
