Forsyth County firefighters rescued a 63-year-old man Tuesday night after he fell down a well at a south Forsyth home.

Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the man, whose name has not been released, was doing some maintenance on the well at the Nicholls Road residence.

Family members noticed he had fallen in and immediately called 911 about 5 p.m.

Shivers said the man was about 20 feet below the surface and the water was nearly up to his waist.

"He was talking to us from the bottom of the well, so we knew he was in good shape," Shivers said.

He explained that firefighters used a tripod-like device to lower a firefighter into the well.

"We sent one firefighter down to him, equipped the individual with a harness, raised him up and then pulled our firefighter up," Shivers said.

The man was not injured, but suffered minor hypothermia and was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth.
