A small boat caught fire Thursday night on Lake Lanier near West Bank Park.

Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the man in the boat was taken to shore by the Department of Natural Resources, and the Forsyth County Fire Department put out the flames about 8 p.m.

“He was only slightly injured,” Shivers said of the man. “He suffered some minor scrapes and bruises to one of his legs trying to get out of the boat.”

Shivers said it’s not known what caused the fire, only that it did not involve a collision.

Firefighters pulled what was left of the boat out of the water with a fire truck, he said.

The park is off Buford Dam Road on Forsyth’s eastern edge, near the dam and the Gwinnett County line.
