Authorities have released the name of the 59-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night in north Forsyth.

Forsyth County Deputy Coroner Kip Adams said Joan Kyle was hit “right in front of her house” on Doctor Bramblett Road, just north of Elzey Drive, by the Sherwood Forest subdivision.

It is not clear whether Kyle, who was carrying a purse, had been walking along the side of the two-lane rural road or trying to cross it when she was struck.

According to Adams, Kyle was in the road when the incident happened about 9:30 p.m.

“We don’t know why she was in the roadway,” Adams said. “The two cars in front of him swerved and missed her, but … there was nowhere for the third car to go.”

Adams said the motorist who struck Kyle was the one who called authorities and stayed on the scene.

Doctor Bramblett was closed for a couple of hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
