CUMMING -- Northside Hospital-Forsyth will once again be taking donations for veterans in need.
From July 4 to Sept. 5, the hospital will take part in the fifth annual Stand Up for Stand Down toiletry drive to benefit homeless veterans in the state. In 2015, the drive collected enough items to fill 1,500 comfort bags.
The “stand down” portion of the name comes from a military term for the time when soldiers are brought in from the battlefield for rest.
Items accepted during the drive include toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo and other small or travel-sized toiletry and personal care items.
The drive is sponsored by Georgia Cancer Specialists, which is affiliated with Northside’s cancer institute, and Pilot International, a global organization that works with local leaders to improve communities.
Donations can be made at any of Georgia Cancer Specialists’ 27 locations. Locally, an office is located at Northside’s campus.
Other offices can be found at gacancer.com.
