WEST FORSYTH — One person was injured in an explosion and small flash fire Wednesday afternoon at a business in western Forsyth County.

According to the Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers, the man received minor burns to his face and hands, but declined to be taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

The fire happened about noon at Rub-R-Wall Rubber and Polymer Company on County Line Road just off of Canton Highway (Hwy. 20).  The business provides waterproofing and sealing products to the construction industry.

Shivers said the fire, which was contained to a small area, was put out quickly by an automatic fire extinguishing system inside the building.

He added that a special team was dispatched, but cancelled after firefighters learned there were no hazardous materials released.

Fire investigators are working with company managers to determine the cause of the fire and explosion.
