A collision Monday afternoon in northeastern Forsyth County left one person dead and another injured.

Clara Garmon, 58, of Gainesville, was killed after being ejected from her pickup truck following a head-on collision at Hwy. 53 and Truman Mountain Road at about 4:13 p.m.

Garmon was headed west on Hwy. 53 when her 2006 Chevrolet Colorado hydroplaned in the rain and crossed into the turn lane, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office news release.

She struck a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban being driven by Brent Ehrler, 35, of Redlands, Calif.

Garmon’s truck then spun counter clockwise and stopped on the north side of Hwy. 53, according to the release.

“Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, however, Garmon’s seat belt broke and she was ejected into the bed of the truck,” the release states. “Garmon was pronounced dead at the scene.”

According to Capt. Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department, Ehrler sustained minor injuries in the wreck.

The accident shut down both roads for about two hours while an investigation was conducted, Sheriff’s Capt. Tim House said.

No charges will be filed, House said.

The sheriff’s release states that alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors. The investigation is ongoing.
