A local group recently raised thousands of dollars for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta through a golf tournament.
Earlier this month, the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club donated a check worth $6,213 to CHOA. The funds were raised through the group’s charity golf tournament at Hampton Golf Village.
“Since 2011 the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club has been an incredible supporter of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta,” said Laurie Cole, community development officer for CHOA, in a news release. “We are so grateful for their continued generosity. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our patients and their families.”
Club president Brenda Basey said in the release the tournament raised more than $12,000.
“Half of the proceeds go to Children’s Healthcare for the fight against childhood cancer and the other half to help with our programs throughout the year for the children in our community,” she said. “A huge thank you to all the sponsors and participants who supported the tournament. My heart is full, and I could not be more proud to be an Optimist.”
The group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month, and more information is available by contacting Basey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
