Shady Grove Campground opens for the season Monday.

Nestled along the shore of Lake Lanier in northeastern Forsyth County, the site will remain open until Nov. 3.

“[The] campground’s popularity grows each year,” said Jerry Kinsey, director of the county parks and recreation department.

The 109-acre campground off Shadburn Ferry Road boasts more than 110 campsites.

Its amenities include a beach and swim area, boat ramp with courtesy dock, group campsites with picnic shelters, playground, tent camping areas and campsites with water and 30- and 50-amp power hookups.

Tommy Bruce, assistant parks and recreation director, said site rentals have increased the past two years.

Forsyth made a variety of improvements to Shady Grove before the 2011 season. Those included expanded camping pads for larger recreational vehicles, a grassy play area and restored shoreline.
