The city of Cumming got some good use out of the Cumming Fairgrounds last year as it played host to several concerts and music festivals.
That doesn’t look like it is going to change this summer, and the first concert has been announced.
The fairgrounds and 37 Main – a rock café in Gainesville that put on the Cumming Music Fest and Classic Rock Tribute Fest in 2018 – will host The Icon Music Fest on June 8. The event will be headlined by The Purple Xperience and I Am King, tribute artists playing the works of Prince and Michael Jackson, respectively.
“We had a little bit of success with the two we put on last year,” said Joe White with 37 Main. “The crowd really seemed to love the shows. So when the opportunity came again from [Mayor Troy Brumbalow] and the city, we were all over that.”
White said after the rock shows last year, they wanted to try a new theme for a show.
“We wanted to try something different, and we also wanted to theme it out. So, we called it the Icon Fest,” he said.
The performers, White said, are more than just impersonators. The Purple Xperience recently played Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and I Am King was a headliner of MJ Live in Las Vegas, which is billed as the “no. 1 Michael Jackson tribute concert in the world.”
“We got the premiere ones, and we are so excited about this one,” White said. “Production is going to be through the roof. It’s going to be bigger and better than last year.”
More artists are expected to be announced as the festival draws nearer.
Those who purchase tickets before March 1 will receive a 37 percent discount on admission. VIP packages are available and include in and out access, free entry to future 37 Main house concerts and drink tickets.
